Published on: 26th April, 2021

Welcome to “What Are We Drinking About”!! This show is unique and EXTRA special. We’re dedicating part to Earth Day - showcasing 3 breweries that are very earth-friendly/centric. The 2nd half in honor of the 5 anniversary of Prince’s death. Jodi is a passionate Prince fan and we thought it the right thing to do to pay our respects via some purpled themed & named beers!

Earth Day Beers:

These brewing companies are all known to be “Earth Friendly” and work to help play their part in taking care of Mother Earth…so we’re tipping our hats to them!

Sierra Nevada Brewing- Wanderland: ABV 7.5 | IBUs 25

Our brand new seasonal, packed with orchard-fresh flavor, is a Kolsch-style Nectarine Ale whose inspiration came from overseas. The idea for Wanderland began in late 2019 when our friends from the United Kingdom paid us a visit and helped collaborate on the beer.

One of the largest craft breweries in the country, Sierra Nevada is well known for its iconic Pale Ale. It should also be known for its love of the Earth. That’s because the Chico, California-based brewery gets all of its energy from solar power.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company- Briney Melon Gose: ABV 4.2% | IBUs 12

Born from our passion for experimentation, our Briney Melon Gose boasts a thirst-quenching tartness that is perfectly balanced by subtle watermelon flavors and aromas. Gentle additions of sea salt create a refreshing harmony between the acidity and fruity sweetness leading to the clean, dry finish

Hard to miss with their mascot the “beer” (a bear with deer antlers) Anderson Valley is committed to reusing water to help the California drought, donating healthy grains to local livestock, running on 40% solar power, and using recycled cans.

Great Lakes Brewing Company- Mexican Lager: ABV 5.4% | IBUs 20

This golden Mexican-Style Lager, brewed with real lime peel and purée and flaked corn for a crisp and refreshing getaway.

From the beginning, we've aspired to craft our beloved and award-winning beers in a socially and environmentally responsible way.  We know that we are not perfect, but through zero-waste initiatives, Water Stewardship, and Local Farming we strive to do the best we can.

Prince Beers:

Abita Brewing Co.- Purple Haze: ABV 4.2% | IBUs 13

Experience the magic of Purple Haze.® Clouds of real raspberries swirl in this tart and tantalizing lager inspired by the good spirits and dark mysteries of New Orleans. Brewed

with pilsner and wheat malts along with Vanguard hops, let the scent of berries in the hazy purple brew put a spell on you.

Delirium- Huyghe Brewery – Nocturnum: ABV 8.5% | IBUs 26

Delirium Nocturnum is a Strong Ale - Belgian Dark style beer brewed by Brouwerij Huyghe in Melle, Belgium.

Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha, and chocolate. Spices such as licorice and coriander are also present. Flavor: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour, and sweetness.

Steelbound Brewery & Distillery- Purple Reign: ABV 5% | IBUs 5

Purple Reign - our new fruited sour with strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. 5% ABV gives it a light, crisp tart finish

Erik Coleman

BEERst (Erik Coleman) was raised in Ellicottville, NY a ski-village an hour outside of Buffalo. He earned his undergraduate degree at Hamilton College a Master’s of Education at Niagara University then attended Canisius College. After leaving twenty years of education, he decided to take the plunge and go all-in on his journey with craft beer and beverages and start his own business. He is the owner of Beer By Coleman & Co-owner of 716Craft (serving as a Craft Beer Consultant & Concierge). He is also Director of Trocaire College’s Brewing, Distillation & Fermentation Program, also serving as the Buffalo/Niagara Brewers Association Events Chairperson.
He has over 25+ years in the craft beer & beverage industry. He has participated in the opening and operating numerous brewing companies in both Western NY and NY state (with some of the biggest craft brands), as well as throughout the country and abroad.
A near-death experience forced Erik to have a wake-up call at age 41, which has sent him off on a mission to follow his passion to help the ultimate craft beer & beverage experiences for the masses.

Bougie (Jodi Coleman) is coming to us from Williamsville, NY, a suburb of Buffalo and has spent twenty years working as a high school counselor. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University at Buffalo. Her work is not what defines her but it is her incredible family and many (each one special) vivacious friends. She serves as Queencess of BEERst’s realm, hard loving clown to people in her world and prefers to be under a chandelier, surrounded in sparkles if she is not dressed in the creative theme of show…..because life is too short.
She had spent a total of zero time drinking craft beer before meeting BEERst and is vocal about being the novice of the two. Shockingly, she put down her wine glass to give craft beer a try and is loving the journey. She asks the questions that any newbie would like to know and is also never afraid to try a new style!
She is not without depth, as the tragic loss of her younger sister has catapulted her passion to enjoy every minute of life in her honor. She continues to remind us that every day of life is a celebration.

The Journey:
The Pandemic brought a rising cry from all that knew them to create an outlet where they could go and experience something other than the atrocities that the COvid-19 pandemic was unfolding around them and the rest of the world. BEERst took to FB Live and started on his own. However, fate had a different thought and when a special guest canceled last minute…BEERst turned to Bougie - his wife, his rock, his “Ride or Die” and asked her to come on the show.
Well, that’s when the real magic began! Now, nine months later they are still going strong with quite a following amongst craft beer & beverage aficionados and newbies alike. They have created this podcast to serve as another outlet for you to be able to enjoy this Fabulous & Delicious Libation Experience.
Cheers!
